Winter Kids: fabulous program for healthy & happy kids to embrace the Best Season!

Julie Mulkern tells Brittney & our viewers all about Maine’s Winter Kids program, which continues to enable kids all across the State the opportunity to participate in all the fun activities that winter offers thanks to the generosity of a variety of contributors, from resorts to individuals. Introducing kids to activities that get them out of the house & into the fresh air is exactly WSKI’s idea of a wicked good concept, any time of the year! . The long-term influence on Winter Kids’ lives to be active, fit & healthy, as well as outdoors stewards, is a huge positive that needs to be supported & promoted for years to come, to ensure generations of active Maine Snow-lovers for the future! Maine Huts & Trails in the New York Times!

Our good friends over at Maine Huts & Trails have hit the big time! Well, they were already pretty big with 45 miles of backcountry trails and three full service huts, but this past weekend they were the cover story in the New York Times’ Travel section! Fun & Fitness under the Roof of the AGC

No matter the weather, you can always get your energy going at the Anti Gravity Complex just off the bottom of the Sugarloaf Access Rd. next to the Carrabassett Valley Library & Community Center. All ages are welcome with special lessons available on the trampolines, 35′ climbing wall, and the skateboard park & bowl, plus there are regular classes of all types where walk-ins are welcome, in addition to the full weight room, basketball court, & more! This joint venture between the Town of CV & Carrabassett Academy is a fabulous community asset enjoyed by locals & visitors alike… & oh, yes, that could be a gold medalist (current or future!) working out next to you!!! Rent Snowmobiles in Stratton & Find Another Reason to Love Winter!

There’s tons of great winter activities here in Maine’s Western Mountains. Just take a short trip into Stratton, a mere 7 miles north of Sugarloaf’s Access Road and you’ll find Flagstaff Snowmobile Rentals. Tom LeMont, the friendly proprietor, will get you on your way, cruising through the hundreds of miles of trails that zigzag through Maine’s famous North Woods. Guided Tours are also available for those who prefer a local to share some of our magic places & offer all kinds of additonal information & enjoyment along the way! Tom sat down with us recently to expound on the many exciting aspects of snowmobiling in Maine.

FABA Presents the Polar Blast (Feb 2nd-4th)

Every year the Flagstaff Area Business Association puts on the Polar Blast, a winter carnival type event in the communities of Eustis and Stratton that is fun for the whole family. The New CV Recreational Bridge is Open!

It’s been nearly two years in the making (or five years, depending on who you ask), but it’s finally here! The brand new Carrabassett Valley Recreational Bridge is open to the public. Located behind the Carrabassett Inn, this impressive new span connects some great trails for the first time ever. Whether you’re snowmobiling, cross-country skiing or hiking, it’s an exciting new development for the community.

Kingfield First Friday Artwalk

Doors open on the first Friday of each month in downtown Kingfield from 5-8pm to view art, meet friends, and enjoy refreshments, music and poetry. Cascade Stream Gorge

Located just off route 4 below Rangeley in Sandy River plantation lies a wonderful short walk to a spectacular set of waterfalls and pools. Acquired by Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust, this 2000 foot gorge has a 16 ft waterfall and hosts some wicked deep depths. An excellent spot on a hot summer day in the Western Mountains of Maine.
